EVD69 and Something Unexpected

Nikolay Konstantinov

It's been a while since I've done a write-up for an event. I've got back in the habbit of taking too many pictures, which means I need a lot more time to sort and edit, and I end up getting burned out and forgetting all the details of the event. Not so much an issue for the last event.

Sunday was EVD69, the second-to-last Evergreen Drift event of the season. The morning sky was overcast and the air was cool. Painfully typical conditions for this area. The track conditions couldn't be more atypical.

The track was littered with car parts, chunks of metal, oil, glass, and spent fireworks. There was even a tire left on the track and a couple demolition cars left in the pits. In order to get the course open on-time the course was changed to a reverse figure-8 with a big finish on the 3/8ths bank.

Once the main straight on the 3/8ths was cleaned off the course was moved back to the normal configuration. Since this is the normal track layout the drivers were able to get back in their element and really push their cars to the limit.

Ben WhyteBen Whyte tapped the wall hard enough to disconnect the battery and needed to be towed off. Fortunately the damage was mostly cosmetic and he was able to get the car running and back on the track. I rode shotgun with Ben right after this and it was terrifying nauseating awe inspiring.

Sean LinAnother driver had a much less forgiving encounter with a barrier. As Sean Lin came into the 3/8ths bank in his S13 and lost grip in the back tires, putting the back of the car into the tractor tires. Sean was okay, and luckly he brought a trailer so he wasn't stranded. Unfortunately this wasn't the first time this car has hit a tire at Evergreen.

Donnie JonesYou might notice that, in the gallery, there aren't many photos from the event. That's because I spent most of the day filming. The end result is the following video. Please leave comments either here or on YouTube and let me know what you think.

Great video. There is talent shown through out the whole video. Not just from the divers, but the phottographer to. It shows you were all over the track. All shot outs to TRAVIS.
